Grade 10

Curriculum and Approach

Grade 10 is the SEE exam year, and everything about how we run this class is shaped by that fact. Himalaya College follows the NEB Secondary Level curriculum, and by the time a student finishes Grade 10 here, the full syllabus across every compulsory subject and elective must be complete well before the board exam date, leaving real time for revision rather than a rushed finish. This is the single biggest difference between Grade 9 and Grade 10 planning: Grade 9 builds the base, Grade 10 is run against a fixed exam calendar from the first week of the year.

We map out the year in three phases: syllabus completion, structured pre-board examinations, and a dedicated revision period. Each phase has its own pacing targets, and teachers track them subject by subject rather than treating the class as a single block. Compulsory Subjects

Grade 10 students continue the same compulsory subjects carried from Grade 9, now at full SEE-exam depth:

• English
• Nepali
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies
• Health, Population and Environment / Physical Education

Coverage in each subject is checked against the NEB syllabus month by month. Mathematics and Science get extended problem-solving sessions because these two subjects produce the widest spread of marks in the SEE exam, and a shaky final month is far harder to recover from than a shaky first term.

Elective Subjects

Students continue with the elective they chose in Grade 9, and Grade 10 is where that choice starts paying off directly against a student's intended +2 stream:

• Account (Accountancy): bookkeeping and financial statement fundamentals, aimed at students continuing into a Management +2 stream.
• Computer Science: programming fundamentals and digital literacy, carried through to whatever stream a student pursues next.
• Economics: micro and macro concepts together with the structure of the Nepali economy, useful for Management and Humanities students.
• Optional Mathematics: advanced algebra, trigonometry, and coordinate geometry, suited to students headed into Science or Management.

As in Grade 9, we offer exactly these four academic electives and no CTEVT-affiliated technical or vocational subject. Keeping the list at four lets teachers give each elective focused, exam-specific attention through the final months before the SEE exam, rather than dividing time across a broader vocational menu.

Learning Focus and Outcomes

The target for Grade 10 is straightforward: a student who has covered the entire NEB Secondary Level syllabus, sat multiple full-length pre-board examinations under timed conditions, and used the feedback from those pre-boards to close specific gaps before the actual SEE exam. We are less interested in a student who "knows" the material in a general sense and more interested in a student who can produce a complete, well-organized answer sheet within the time limit, because that is what the SEE exam actually measures.

Teaching Methodology

Teaching in Grade 10 leans heavily on past SEE question patterns, model sets, and timed practice. Once a chapter is taught, students work through NEB-style questions on it before moving forward, so gaps surface while there is still time to fix them. Weaker areas identified during regular class tests are revisited in smaller group sessions rather than left for students to sort out alone. Teachers also walk students through answer-writing technique, how to structure a Social Studies or Science answer for full marks, not just how to arrive at the right fact.

Assessment

Beyond regular unit tests and a terminal examination, Grade 10 includes scheduled pre-board examinations set to the SEE format and timing. Pre-board results are reviewed subject by subject with each student, and the weeks that follow are used for targeted revision on exactly the topics that need it. This cycle repeats until the final revision period before the SEE exam, when classes shift almost entirely to practice papers, doubt-clearing sessions, and last-mile consolidation across every compulsory subject and the student's chosen elective.
